eMagin Virtual Reality 3D Headset

The Z800 3DVisor is the industry’s first combination of high resolution OLED-based stereovision, advanced 360-degree headtracker and stereo sound for a 3D experience that puts viewers inside games or movies.

eMagin’s Z800 3DVisor delivers full-surround 3D environment for effective simulations in a lightweight, low-power, wearable display. It also provides a high-colour, high-contrast virtual image equivalent to a 105-inch screen viewed at twelve feet, in full-colour stereovision. The 3DVisor’s high-speed headtracking also enables 360-degree viewing.

Completing the experience is an integrated, audio system with stereo earbuds and a built-in, noise-cancelling microphone. To power all these capabilities, the 3DVisor requires only a standard USB port. Turning off the laptop’s LCD and using the 3DVisor instead can greatly extend its battery life, claims the company.

‘We designed the Z800 3DVisor to deliver the most convincing possible experience of virtual environments,’ said Susan Jones, chief marketing and strategy officer, eMagin. ‘That’s why leaders in military simulation and training, like General Dynamics, Quantum3D, and others have chosen it to deliver embedded training capabilities to the US Armed Services. That’s also why the 3DVisor is also so effective for treating a wide range of trauma and stress-induced disorders through exposure to virtual environments.’

Quantum3D’s Thermite tactical visual computer employs delivers the high quality video signal to make eMagin’s Z800 3DVisor into a wearable, embedded-training platform. The combination is the heart of Quantum3D’s Expedition system, the company’s wireless, immersive, self-contained, man-wearable, open-architecture COTS platform. More information about the technology can be found at www.quantum3d.com.

Owing to the inherent benefits of OLED technology, eMagin’s microdisplays deliver the resolution, brightness, and speed for a broad range of defence and security applications - at the lowest system power of any near-eye solution, the company says. Because OLEDs can switch to different grey level states in microseconds rather than milliseconds, eMagin microdisplays deliver images and information virtually flicker-free in near-eye applications.

With the world’s lowest power display solution they provide soldiers with critical information for extended periods in harsh environments, ranging from extreme cold to high heat without additional heaters or coolers. Since they emit light in all directions, OLED microdisplays also accommodate a greater range of pupil movement than traditional LCDs.

eMagin is showcasing its Z800 3DVisor for simulation and training applications in Booth 2371 at the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) through December 1 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida.
