Anywhere, anytime access to e-mail, the Internet and business applications are fundamental elements of mobility. However, this traditionally required laptops with external GPRS or UMTS cards.
Fujitsu Siemens Computers, one of Europes leading IT manufacturer, is now integrating these technologies and will introduce laptops with GPRS/UMTS technology from the first quarter of 2006.
Thanks to built-in UMTS (3G), the external PC card will become unnecessary. Roaming between GPRS/UMTS and Wireless LAN, these new laptops will offer the highest flexibility. This integrated mobile solution also simplify access to corporate applications and up-to-the-minute information.
Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) is one of the third-generation (3G) mobile phone technologies. It uses W-CDMA as the underlying standard, is standardised by the 3GPP, and represents the European/Japanese answer to the ITU IMT-2000 requirements for 3G cellular radio systems.
To differentiate UMTS from competing network technologies, UMTS is sometimes marketed as 3GSM, emphasising the combination of the 3G nature of the technology and the GSM standard which it was designed to succeed.
The new UMTS laptops once again demonstrate that we are the market leader when it comes to developing innovative mobility solutions, said Peter Esser, Executive Vice President Volume Products & Supply Chain at Fujitsu Siemens Computers. As with all our mobile products and solutions, we have made these laptops secure and easy to use. They will offer efficiency and savings in time and money.
Mobility is one of the long-standing strategic pillars at Fujitsu Siemens Computers, which offers one of the broadest portfolios of high-quality mobile products and solutions available, from handhelds and laptops to convertibles and tablet PCs.
