Toshiba Mobile Multimedia Powerhouse

Toshiba has launched a tasty multimedia laptop. The new Satellite Pro P100 (available from £899) provides cutting-edge features in a 17-inch widescreen format.

Designed as a desktop replacement laptop the Satellite Pro P100 (394x275x36mm, 3.2kg) is a high-end multimedia laptop built for designers, digital artists and those in business requiring very high quality graphics and audio capability in a mobile form-factor.

To this end, it incorporates Intel’s Core Duo processor technology with dedicated nVidia Geforce Go 7600 graphics (128MB VRAM), which is good enough for all but the most demanding gaming. Memory comes in the form of 512MB DDR2 RAM (533MHz) - expandable to 4GB - and there’s a 60GB HDD for storing your data.

Other niceties include a Trubrite 17-inch (1440x900-pixel) widescreen display along with Harmon Kardon speakers which should greatly enhance the audio and visual experience.

Toshiba EasyGuard features in the Satellite Pro P100 include biometric fingerprint authentication, the option for separate user and supervisor passwords (to assist IT departments if passwords are forgotten or when an employee departs a company), HDD shock mount protection and physical security mechanisms including a Kensington lock device.

The new model is also fully compliant with the European Union’s Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive for environmentally-friendly electronic equipment. All of Toshiba’s new laptops and accessories will be fully compliant by April 2006, several months prior to the directive’s deadline and the first vendor to fully comply.
