Wyse Technology has announced new green computing research, which demonstrates how organisations can cut desktop energy costs tenfold by deploying thin-computing architectures.
While the average traditional desktop guzzles over 80-Watts of electricity, Wyse thin clients use about 7-Watts - or 8-Watts with overhead from the central server included.
The result is significant cost savings for a customer, which further lowers the total cost of ownership (TCO) for thin computing architectures. Many companies and countries around the world are recognising the importance of energy savings at the workplace.
Traditional PCs pump electricity into idle processors, spinning hard drives and local cooling systems - a tremendous waste of resources, said Jeff McNaught, Vice President, Marketing and Customer Support at Wyse Technology. By contrast, thin clients contain no moving parts and use little electricity, adding low energy costs to the list of reasons why the TCO of a thin client is 40 per cent less than a PC.
