Perforce Software has updated its Software Configuration Management (SCM), or digital asset management, system. The software builds on its administration tools, and adds new features such as a P4 Monitor utility which provides administrators with greater visibility and control over Perforce processes running in the Perforce Server. P4 Monitor will also save you time by providing easier access to process information previously identified at the operating system level, claims Perforce Software.
Perforce is a high-end software configuration management system that helps to streamline the software development process for organisations working with multiple operating systems and in multiple physical locations. The system runs on more than 50 operating systems and provides software developers with a tool for version control and workspace management, with atomic change transactions. Work is managed on local hard disks and the software also caters for online backups.
The new P4 Monitor utility provides a diagnosis of performance issues, allowing you to maximise the Perforce Servers resources by determining who is executing a bandwidth-consuming command. Monitor information includes the command, the supporting arguments submitted and the precise time elapsed since the command was executed. Problematic processes can then be terminated without interrupting the Perforce Server. Perforce also features a self-maintaining database optimised for Perforce operations, as well as a communication protocol that is not reliant on the addition of any supporting file systems.
End-user licenses, including one year of support and maintenance, start at $750 (£499) per seat. Volume discounts are available.
