Vivendi Universal Games Homeworld 2

Homeworld 2, the sequel to 1999's top-selling, space-based real-time strategy (RTS) game will ship next month. Homeworld 2 returns you to the helm of a powerful space armada as you battle to keep your home. The follow-up includes support for up to five players, in addition to single-player action, and adds new visual improvements such as dust gas clouds, wispy nebulae and derelict space ships. Developers Relic Entertainment have also made refinements to the gameplay and the user interface.

Homeworld 2 focuses on the epic struggle of the Hiigarans and their leader Karan S'jet. Continuing from the original storyline, the Hiigarans now face a new and bitter enemy. This latest instalment centres on the journey of the Mothership and its crew, which takes the Hiigarans into the oldest regions of the galaxy to confront their new foe and learn the truth behind their exile.

Developed with the RTS community in mind, the game's 3D technology includes support for mods and high levels of customisation. The story-driven missions offer new fleets, each with unique abilities and craft, and comes with support for tools to create your own content, including multi-player maps. New camera panning should make manoeuvring fleets easier, and the Zoom feature lets you see objects in intricate detail, zoom out to get a panoramic view, or rotate your view 360 degrees.

The sequel stays true to the epic spirit of the original, according to Vivendi Universal Games, and should please both loyal fans and new Homeworld gamers alike.
