Sonic Software Sonic Stylus Studio 5.0

Sonic Software has released Sonic Stylus Studio 5.0, the latest version of its XQuery tool. Designed for Web application developers, Stylus Studio 5.0 provides an XSLT editor and debugger, graphical XML Schema designer, XML-to-XML mapper and XML-to-HTML designer. It also provides visual mapping, editing and debugging of XQuery with support for the latest W3C XQuery specifications.

Release 5.0 combines existing XSLT and XML editors with XQuery tools. New features include an XQuery mapper that lets you draw links between XML data sources and XML targets, specify the functional logic for data aggregation and generate an XQuery; back-mapping technology that displays the line of code that generated it; and a Web service for composing SOAP requests and testing Web services without writing any code. New XQuery and XSLT profilers also show how efficiently XQuery or XSLT code is being executed, and support for multiple XML Schema validation engines such as Microsoft MSXML, .Net Parser and Apache XercesJ should offer access to a large repository of industry-standard XML schemas.

Stylus Studio 5.0 promises to make building SOAP servers and clients a more intuitive process, according to Sonic Software. The ability to request the SOAP messages from a server directly and build a style sheet to process those messages in an interactive environment should also make developing applications much easier. In addition, the ability to switch XSL processors from the internal processor to MSXML, Xalan, or Saxon should make testing cross-platform XSL style sheets more effective.
