Samsung and ACCESS have collaborated to launch a full Internet browsing-capable handset in Europe. Samsung's SGH-Z130 3G mobile phone will ship with ACCESS' NetFront Browser for Internet browing on the go. The SGH-Z130 deployment is a collaboration originating from ACCESS and Samsung's recently announced global partnership.
The NetFront browser provides SGH-Z130 users with the ability to browse the Internet in 'full'. This function complements the SGH-Z130's (112x46x20mm, 120g) relatively impressive multimedia features that include a unique rotating, high-resolution LCD screen (176x220 pixels), 1.3-Megapixel digital camera (1280x960 pixels), and support for 64 polyphonic ringtones (supports MP3, AAC and AAC+ music formats). The handset supports the 2100MHz UMTS 3G band as well as the 900/1800MHz GSM bands, and comes with built-in Bluetooth.
'The SGH-Z130 is one of the most innovative 3G handsets on the market today, and ACCESS' advanced NetFront browser technology extends this innovation by providing a comprehensive mobile Internet browsing experience,' said Chulhwan Lee, of Samsung. 'ACCESS and Samsung will continue to collaborate to bring advanced mobile Internet browsing solutions to mobile end-users throughout the world.'
'The combination of Samsung's advanced SGH-Z130 3G handset and NetFront browser delivers a rich, full Internet browsing experience to mobile users in Europe,' said Toru Arakawa, president and CEO of ACCESS. 'We're pleased that the SGH-Z130 marks another significant milestone in ACCESS and Samsung's global partnership.'
ACCESS' NetFront browser is one of the most popular mobile browsers with over 164 million deployments in Europe, the Americas and Asia-Pacific, according to the company. It was the first mobile browser to be deployed for a commercial 3G service, and it continues to be used by mobile operators deploying next-generation mobile services throughout the world.
The NetFront browser supports OMA Browsing 2.2, WML, HTML 4.01 and cHTML. There are some unique features too, such as Rapid-Render, an incremental rendering technology that claims to accelerate the presentation of Web pages, and Smart-Fit Rendering, a rendering technology that renders Web pages to fit the screen width of mobile devices, eliminating the need for horizontal scrolling. NetFront is also the only mobile browser to provide integrated support for Adobe Reader LE and Adobe's ubiquitous portable document format (PDF).
