Innovation of the Month

V-Tec's latest innovation is a 'one-touch' backup device for those on the move. The Cutie OTG is a battery-powered 2.5in. USB 2.0 hard disk (75x127x20.25mm, 220g) that is available with storage capacities up to 100GB, and should appeal to digital photographers as it lets you backup directly from digital cameras, PDAs or any other USB device that supports USB Mass Storage or the Picture Transfer Protocol (PTP). The really clever thing about the drive is that unlike a regular external hard disk, the Cutie OTG can backup data stored on a digital camera or any other supported USB device without using a computer. Just connect one of the four USB cables supplied to your camera and then press 'Copy'. The Cutie OTG should then transfer files from your camera to the hard disk, allowing you to restore valuable storage space on your Flash memory card. The range starts with a 20GB model (£135 ex. VAT) and ends with a 100GB unit (£250 ex. VAT).

Pros: One-touch backup; battery-powered; ideal for photographers
Cons: Tad more expensive than a regular external hard disk

Release: VTEC Industry Europe, the USB portable storage and IT innovation supplier, today announces its new USB 2.0 portable hard drive, V-Disk Cutie OTG, a new on-the-go portable device that can provide one-touch back up in the field directly from digital cameras, card readers and flash storage devices - all without the need for a computer.

V-Disk Cutie OTG also acts as an external storage device for a computer to provide additional data storage, data transfer and back-up facilities. V-Disk Cutie OTG is small and compact, comes with a built-in Lithium-ion rechargeable battery, and features aluminium casing for added elegance.

Managing Director of VTEC, Chris Austwick, comments, 'V-Disk Cutie OTG is another welcome addition for digital photographers. It enables them to transfer images directly from their digital cameras or card readers, leaving them free to continue with the process of taking photographs. It requires no external power supply and provides on-board back-up and storage capacities of 20MB, 40MB, 60MB, 80MB and 100MB.'
